Most popular press outlets are surprised by the economy's recent strength. For instance, the US News & World Report featured an AP story on Wednesday (inset) expressing surprise with how strong the economy has been despite higher interest rates and high inflation.

According to Dictionary.com, "surprise is...

...a feeling of wonder or astonishment caused by something unexpected, unusual, or unlooked for
